Crazy Jeff Talk - Many of you have surely been talking to me and I will say something and you aren't sure what I mean. I do have the tendency to throw random comments or phrases into conversations, and because of this, I feel that that you deserve some sort of explanation/assistance/reference to all this crazy talk.  So here for you today and everyday is a listing of the phonetic alphabet, time zone information, an official explanation of the "+", METAR decoding, etc...enjoy.


Phonetic Alphabet   A - Alpha
  B - Bravo
  C - Charlie
  D - Delta
  E - Echo
  F - Foxtrot
  G - Golf
  H - Hotel
  I - India
  J - Juliet
  K - Kilo
  L - Lima
  M - Mike
  N - November
  O - Oscar
  P - Papa
  Q - Quebec
  R - Romeo
  S - Sierra
  T - Tango
  U - Uniform

Time Zones and Form Greenwich Mean Time [GMT or Zulu] - Time zone at Prime Meridian, does not change with Daylight Savings Time (DST), used in navigation of ships, by military, or for any purpose requiring a world-wide standardized time.

Time Zones are given +/- hours from GMT.
      Ex.   Eastern Standard Time [EST] = GMT-05:00
             Eastern Daylight Time [EDT] = GMT-04:00

Local Time in West Lafayette, IN, USA
      Indiana Eastern Time = GMT-05:00 (no DST change)

24-Hour Time - Time format used primarily for military or official purposes. Ranges from 0000 to 2359 (2400 can be used to maintain day)
      Ex.   1645 [EST] = 4:45 pm Eastern Standard Time
             1645 [EST] = 2145 [GMT]


Affirmative, Negative Affirmative - Word used to mean "yes", "that is correct", "I understand", "attractive", etc. Opposite of "negative".

Negative - Word used to mean "no", "that is incorrect", "no way buster", etc. Opposite of "affirmative".

"+" - Symbol used to mean "affirmative", "yeah?", "awesome", etc. Used alone as a response, never as adjective.

"-" - Symbol used to mean "negative", "I will not", "not happening", etc. Used alone as a response, never as adjective.



METAR Decoding METAR is an Aviation Routine Weather Report.

Ex.   KLAF 020254Z AUTO 27008KT 9SM OVC014 03/M01 A3027 RMK AO2

       KLFA - ICAO Station Identifier: Lafayette, Indiana, USA
       020254Z - Date/Time: 2nd day of month at 0254 Zulu
       AUTO - Modifier: Automated weather report
       27008KT - Wind: From 270 (West) at 8 knots
       9SM - Visibility: 9 statute miles
       OVC014 - Sky Conditions: Overcast, with ceiling at 1400 ft
       03/M01 - Temperature/Dew Point [°C]: Temperature 3, dew point -2
       A3027 - Altimeter Setting: Kohlsman window should be set to 30.27
       RMK - Remarks: Remarks
       A02 - Remarks: Automated station has precipitation discriminator
